Excerpts from The Dancing Lesson

The photographs in The Dancing Lesson accompany a short story set in the north of England at a community center designated as both a child welfare clinic and a dance studio. The historical and social context for the narrative is the late 1960's, when the flow of Pakistani physicians to the United Kingdom is diminishing because of immigration quotas, and a refusal by British authorities to accept the medical certification granted by Pakistan to its doctors.
